Crossrail Place

Spanning more than 300 metres along the north dock, the new Crossrail Place comprises four levels of retail, restaurants and leisure facilities in addition to a densely planted rooftop park designed by landscape architect, Gillespies. A timber lattice rooftop provides a warm, natural counterpoint to the glass and steel towers of Canary Wharf.  Seating and pavilions are interspersed throughout, creating an oasis in the city that can be enjoyed year round.

Like the new Crossrail transit station now under construction, the objective of this new space is to connect London from east to west. The new building mediates between the residential neighbourhood of Poplar and the business district of Canary Wharf, signifying the role of infrastructure as the glue that ties a city together.
