Situated between the trade fair grounds, banking district and central railway station, this development includes the construction of live theaters and cinemas, commercial offices, mixed retail and a 45-storey hotel over a three-level below-grade parking garage for 3,300 cars. In the second phase of the project, parking for an additional 700 cars was added.
The project involves the coordination of at least six separate architectural firms. The overall concept envisioned fluid pedestrian routes that bisected the site allowing the general public to navigate through the complex at all hours of the day and night. These pedestrian paths are lined with retail at the lower levels and the overall complex is punctuated with a vertical hotel tower. The curvilinear configuration of the site and principle building elements is reminiscent of medieval town planning.
