The 1.2 million-square-foot Brampton Civic Hospital was one of the first AFP hospitals in Ontario. Strategically placed to fulfill the immediate medical needs of the City of Brampton, this new hospital, in partnership with five other existing hospitals, is the flagship for clinical care in the City of Brampton. The facility operates as an open, accessible public hospital housing 608 acute care beds and 18 operating rooms; as well as accommodating 90,000 emergency visits, 160,000 ambulatory care visits, and 4,250 births each year.
Composed of three distinct bar-like elements and rendered in separately identifiable materials which compliment the suburban context, the ambulatory care wing (glass), the treatment diagnostic centre (aluminium) and the in-patient block (brick) is a singular example of the modern “horizontal” hospital.
