Adamson Associates Architects is part of the Plenary Justice team for this DBFM (Design Build Finance Maintain) project. The project consolidates Thunder Bay’s two existing courthouses: the courts of the Superior Court of Justice and the courts of the Ontario Court of Justice. Located in Thunder Bay’s downtown south core, the new courthouse will improve access to justice in the area by consolidating the services of the existing courthouses within one modern facility, increasing the number of courtrooms available, improving health and safety standards, and providing better public access and security. The TBCC will accommodate 15 courtrooms and 4 conference/settlement rooms in a multi-storey building, with at least one level below grade. As a part of the government's commitment to creating and promoting energy conservation in Ontario, the new facility will be built to LEED Silver standards. The building will also feature barrier-free design including barrier-free public access to courtrooms, infrared hearing assistance, and barrier-free witness stands and jury boxes.
