2004 Aga Khan Award for Architecture winner

Adamson Associates Architects was the Executive Architect for this landmark development, one of Malaysia’s most popular destinations. Designed by Pelli Clarke Pelli, the site comprises twin-storey high-rise office towers for Petronas Global, skybridge, retail podium, concert hall, and landscaped gardens.

The centerpiece of this development, the Petronas Towers, are twin 88-storey towers connected by a dramatic mid-height, two-storey bridge. The Petronas Twin Towers, respond to their climate and to formal characteristics of the dominant Islamic culture. The towers are figurative and symmetrical and create a figurative space between them. Each tower has its own vertical axis, but the axis of the total composition is in the center of the void.

The connecting sky bridge spans 36 floors above the six-storey podium, accommodating 1,500,000 square feet of retail space “The Suria KLCC Retail Mall” and the 150,000 square foot world-class Petronas Philharmonic Concert Hall that is home to the Malaysian Philharmonic. A 5-storey parking garage for 5,400 cars is provided below grade.
