Conversion of the landmark Metropolitan Life Clocktower to a world-class luxury hotel and a flagship for the EDITION brand

AAI was the Architect of Record for the renovation of the Metropolitan Life Clocktower in New York City for the EDITION, a luxury hotel brand conceived by hotelier Ian Schrager in partnership with Marriott International. The beloved Clocktower building is a National Landmark, styled to evoke the campanile in St. Mark’s Square in Venice and claiming the title of the world’s tallest building when it was constructed in 1909.

Under Ian Schrager’s creative lead, the building’s 6,100 square foot footprint was converted to a world-class luxury hotel and a flagship for the EDITION brand, showcasing the best in dining and nightlife, services, and amenities.

The hotel accommodates 272 rooms. A lobby, reception, and bar/lounge space occupies the first floor, with a world-class restaurant on floor two and meeting rooms on floor three. Floors four through forty-one house hotel rooms and suites as well as back-of-house and mechanical areas with spa and fitness areas on floor 38. Floors forty-two through fifty house mechanical areas as well as the existing beacon with new lighting by Fisher Marantz and Stone.
